The Summer Re-build is getting bigger but there’s time

With Sam Hornby getting sold as a free Transfer, Lee Grant has completed his strip out, along with Stewart Mairs, the new head of Football, they have stripped out the majority of the squad.

Since the end of last season, Walsall have now off loaded/lost/released/had loans finished.

2 x Goalkeepers – Myles Roberts & Sam Hornby

7 x Defenders – Aden Flint, Priestley Farquharson,  Evan Weir, Kacper Łopata. Future unclear but not signed up are Rico Browne and Elicha Ahui, with Harry Williams not likely to be fit to return from an achilles nightmare (so as for the start of the season, not available to be in the squad).

2 x Wingbacks – Connor Barrett – earned his move and should have arguably been allowed to leave in January. Plus Jid Okeke who we should have snapped up on a permanent deal.

7 x Midfielders – Brandon Comley, Charlie Lakin, Jamie Jellis, Alfie Chang, Rico Richards, Jake Hollman  and Dylan Thomas,

3 x Strikers – Jamille Matt, Josh Gordon (was not strictly with the squad) and of course Daniel Kanu, plus Aaron Loupalo-Bi

Not including 3, Josh Gordan and Elicha Ahui and Dylan Thomas (who were not in the first team) and ignoring Ryan Finnigan who was replaced with Alfie Chang.

That points to a requirement to replace 21 first teamers, of which 10 were regular starters (in Bold)

Towards the huge requirement, we can add Ronan Maher and Stan Straw to the first teamers, but at this stage neither would be expected to be regular starters and the likes of Mclloyd Oben, Paul Makavore and Will Etheridge would not be expected to regularly feature in the 18 man squads for the EFL league Two games.

We have also heard that Jago Godden is not expected to return to WS1 until January at the earliest.
